Symposium Concept & Themes
Postmodernism
has revolutionized our thinking of society and social development,
embracing environmental aesthetisation, emphasizing the value
of heterogeneity whilst maintaining a sense of unity yet accentuating
the process of change and circulation of ideas. The relationship
of postmodernism to planning remains an under researched field
of enquiry. Sharjah Urban Planning Symposium prides itself in
its foci on exploring the impact of innovatory and cutting edge
ideas and practices on urban and regional planning, particularly
in their application to the Middle Eastern Region. Sharjah Directorate
of Town Planning and London South Bank University are pleased
therefore to welcome scholars and practitioners to participate
in the current debate on the following themes of Cities
in the Postmodern Age, particularly in terms of
Co-ordination, Networking
